Applications are invited for a Research Fellow position to join Professor Natasha Merat<https://environment.leeds.ac.uk/transport/staff/962/professor-natasha-merat> and Associate Professor Mahdi Rezaei's<https://environment.leeds.ac.uk/transport/staff/9408/dr-mahdi-rezaei> research group at the University of Leeds, UK, to undertake a leading role in Hi-Drive<https://www.hi-drive.eu/>, the Flagship European research project in Autonomous Vehicles. Collaborating with 40 European partners (including the best EU and UK universities and world-leading autonomous vehicle manufacturers), the research project aims to deploy higher levels of driving automation for the next generation of highly automated vehicles, using Computer Vision and AI.



The Institute for Transport Studies (ITS) at the University of Leeds is the leading research department in autonomous vehicles research in the entire UK and is involved in several work packages and research tasks in this project and beyond. We are seeking a talented research fellow in computer vision, machine learning, and sensor fusion with a particular capability of developing enabler models for “Driver Monitoring ”  using computer vision.



Skills and experience required:

  *   A PhD or near completion in Computer Science, AI, Data Analytics, Machine Learning, Robotics, Mathematics, or a closely allied discipline.
  *   An in-depth practical experience in Deep Neural Network models, CNNs, Reinforcement Learning, and Transfer Learning, for object detection/recognition, tracking, and segmentation.
  *   Highly skilled in Python programming, CV and DNN libraries (OpenCV, TensorFlow, PyTorch, Keras), Matlab, Cloud platforms, Microsoft Azure, and CUDA.
  *   Strong track record of research publications in top-tier computer vision and/or transport-related journals and conferences.
  *   Good time management and planning skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines and manage competing demands.
  *   Excellent written, presentation, and communication skills.
  *   A proven ability to work well both individually and in a team.

Salary:  £37,099 to £44,263 p.a.
