Hi everyone,
I have an opening for a PhD student working on visual neuroaesthetics in my
lab at the Justus Liebig University Giessen, Germany. The position can be
filled from September 2024. The position is supported by a DFG research
grant (“Resolving the brain dynamics underlying aesthetic visual
experiences”) and is funded for 3 years.
The project sets out to provide a comprehensive understanding of the neural
processes that determine whether or not observers find natural images
beautiful. To this end, the project will combine psychophysics, EEG, and
fMRI, as well as computational models of the visual system.
This is a great opportunity for a candidate who is interested in visual
aesthetics or neuroaesthetics. Candidates should ideally have prior
experience with EEG and/or fMRI for addressing questions in (visual)
cognitive neuroscience, good programming skills (matlab or python), and a
general interest in the brain mechanisms of visual perception.
The lab features a diverse team of young scientists that work on a set of
exciting topics in visual cognitive neuroscience. You can find more about
us here: www.danielkaiser.net
Beyond our lab, Giessen offers a unique world-class community of vision
researchers, who are centrally involved in to two large-scale research
consortia working on a variety of topics in perception and action
("Cardinal Mechanisms of Perception", www.sfb-perception.de/index-en, and
„The Adaptive Mind”, www.theadaptivemind.de). Our research group provides a
supportive and collaborative atmosphere and excellent opportunities for
discussion and training.
As a city, Giessen is a small but lively university town close to Frankfurt
with a high proportion of students.
The official job ad can be found here (application deadline is on 11th
June):

Please feel free to forward the job ad to potential candidates. I'm very
happy to answer any questions on the position, the project, or our lab -
just get in touch over email: danielkaiser.net at gmail.com
Cheers,
Daniel.
