 Four-year Ph.D. position (Industrial Innovation, NRRP) NOW available @
CIMeC, University of Trento, IT

The project intends to study the impact of physical activity on slowing
down cognitive decline related to aging, and is centered on achieving two
objectives. First, to investigate the role of physical activity on
cognitive fitness, systematically quantifying its effect on different
neural and cognitive functions. To this end, cognitive neuroscience
methods, profiling and e-health technology will be used to better explore
the impact of individual differences in determining healthy aging
trajectories. Second, to identify the best physical exercise practices to
enhance learning in older individuals while performing cognitive tasks,
leveraging the knowledge identified from the phase described above.
The PhD position belongs to the Industrial Innovation PhD program, which
foresees a collaboration between the University of Trento (Veronica Mazza,
CIMeC) and an industrial partner (Carlo Bertelli, Wolico). The PhD student
will be spending a 12-month research period in Wolico with a specific focus
on implementing machine learning and AI methods on data.
Ideal candidates have a background in cognitive neuroscience/data
analysis/computational science or similar and a strong interest in pursuing
multidisciplinary research; prior experience in data collection and
analysis, preferably in the older population; prior experience in the use
of some of the methods relevant to the project (e.g., EEG,
neurostimulation); prior coding experience, preferably in python or Matlab;
fluency in English.
