The Department of Computer Science at the Blekinge Institute of Technology (BTH) in southern Sweden is looking for a PhD student that will join a new research project, Sustainable Product Innovation for Rewarding Transformation - SPIRIT. The work will be done in close collaboration with the BTH Department of Strategic Sustainable Development and prominent product developing companies in Sweden.
The PhD student shall develop and evaluate methods, algorithms, and tools for visual data analytics and user-centered visualization. A challenge is to make visual analytics and visualization techniques more effective and adapted for different user groups in multidisciplinary teams and on different levels within a company to support sustainable product development.
The purpose of the SPIRIT project is to increase companies' capabilities for developing competitive products that contribute to a sustainable society. SPIRIT includes three subprojects with a focus on: (1) Business opportunities and risks in society's transition to sustainability; (2) Assessment of products' sustainability performance and (3) User-centered and visualization-based digitalization of tools for sustainable product development. The PhD student for this position will focus on point (3) while also interacting with the other subprojects. By synergistically integrating the results from the subprojects, we will provide industry with a set of conceptually coherent and digitalized tools for effective early phases sustainable product innovation work.
