Dear colleagues,
I will be reviewing applications for up to 2 PhD students to join my
soon-to-open lab.
The lab broadly studies the development of high-level perceptual
capacities, such as visual categorization and intuitive physics in infants,
children, and adults. We use a mixed-methods approach that includes
behavioral (e.g., eye-tracking, psychophysics), neuroimaging (e.g., fMRI),
and computational (e.g., neural network modeling) methods.
Lab members will have access to fantastic resources including:

   1. An MRI scanner inside the building
   2. A brand-new infant and toddler MRI coil to conduct awake, task-based,
fMRI studies with infants and young children
   3. Access to high-performance computing resources

For an overview of some of the projects in the lab, see:

This is a great opportunity for students interested in understanding
development, neural processing, or how we can use developmental insights
from children to build better artificial intelligence agents. Candidates
will ideally have good programming and data science skills (e.g., in
python) and a general interest in the cognitive and neural mechanisms
underlying perception and development.
Outside the lab, Temple University is located in Philadelphia, a truly
fantastic city to live in and work in. Philadelphia is affordable, has a
great night life, easy access to both the beach and mountains, and one of
the *best restaurant scenes in the U.S.

It
is also an easy train ride away from other major cities such as NYC and
Boston. Moreover, the psychology and neuroscience department at Temple is
extremely collaborative and productive and hosts a strong grad student
union.

Please forward this ad to potential candidates. I am also happy to answer
any questions about the lab, projects, or anything else over email:
