Dear Colleagues,
We are pleased to announce that the 47th European Conference on Visual Perception (ECVP) will take place in Mainz, Germany, from Sunday, August 24th, to Thursday, August 28th, 2025.
Mainz is a historic university city with more than 30,000 students, 4,500 scientists, and a total population of 220,000. It lies directly on the legendary River Rhine, surrounded by internationally renowned wine regions. Mainz has a charming historic downtown and features a number of tourist attractions (https://www.mainz-tourismus.com/en/), among others the Gutenberg Museum. The city is also highly accessible, being close to Frankfurt Airport (FRA) and serving as a major German railroad hub. The campus housing the conference is a 5-10 minute streetcar ride from downtown and the central train station. Also, a number of cities with great museums and historic sites are accessible within a 1-hour train ride (e.g., Frankfurt, Darmstadt, Heidelberg). There are plenty of accommodation options, with more than 4,000 hotel beds in Mainz itself and numerous alternatives in the vicinity. We have reserved a block of hotel rooms exclusively for ECVP participants, available through this website: https://hotels.click-around.systems/1cb77439/c/jwyr4a/en.
THE PROGRAM
The conference will feature a diverse mix of keynote lectures, symposia, talks, poster presentations, and tutorials. The social program includes the Welcome Reception, the Illusion Night, the Conference Dinner, and the Farewell Party. We are excited to bring back two popular innovations from the last ECVP: the PerceptioNite, a networking event for young scientists (and the young at heart), and the Spotlight in Vision keynote lecture, which will highlight new and relevant findings in vision science.
As part of a long-standing tradition, the Visual Science of Art Conference (VSAC) will be held just before the ECVP, from August 21st to 23rd, also in Mainz. We are eagerly looking forward to it! More information will soon be available at https://www.vsac.eu/.
As a special feature, the MANER (Material Appearance Network for Education and Research) Conference will be held in cooperation with ECVP. We are planning joint sessions on Thursday during ECVP, bringing together experts from different fields involved in material perception. ECVP participants are invited to attend the MANER Conference on Friday, August 29th, which will take place in Darmstadt, about 35 km from Mainz. Further information about the MANER Conference will be available here: https://www.maner.network/.
