====================================
THE AVA - DAVID MARR MEDAL - 2025
** FINAL REMINDER, TWO WEEKS TO THE DEADLINE **
==========================================
The AVA awards, normally every two years, a medal recognizing the
achievements of an outstanding vision scientist in the early part of their
research career. The award is called the David Marr Medal, in memory of one
of Britain's most distinguished vision researchers. This notice is a call
for nominations for the 2025 award.
Nomination
Candidates from any country are eligible as long as they can demonstrate a
significant link to UK research, and who completed their PhD no more than
10 years ago*. More precisely: for the 2025 award, nominees should have
submitted their PhD on or after Jan 1st 2015.
*Allowances can be made for illness, career or child-rearing breaks.
Nominations (but not self-nominations) are invited from AVA members, and
should include:
• a letter of recommendation (use standard letter template from AVA
website)
• the nominee's CV (with list of publications, funding, outreach)
• two example publications (PDF files).
Any eligible vision scientist may be nominated, whether nominated
previously or not.
The Award
The winner of the 2025 award will be announced by the end of May 2025. They
will be invited to receive it and to give a talk at the AVA Christmas
meeting 2025.
Previous awards
Information about previous Marr medal winners can be found here:
http://www.theava.net/awards/marr.php
Deadline: Nominations (in electronic form) should be e-mailed to the AVA
Marr Medal chairperson, George Lovell (p.g.lovell at abertay.ac.uk) by Friday,
March 14th 2025.
Nominators considering candidates who submitted their PhD earlier than Jan
1st 2015, but who subsequently had a career break, are welcome to apply for
this award. In this case we ask that nominators add a short explanation of
the nature of the break in their application for review by the committee. A
template for the letter of recommendation is provided on the AVA website <
https://www.theava.net/awards/marr.php>.
