**PostDoc position to develop methods and computational tools to evaluate computational models of vision (m/f/d; E13 TV-L; 100%)**

We seek a postdoctoral fellow (m/f/d, E13 TV-L, 100%) as part of the DFG-funded Cooperative Research Center (CRC) on “Robust Vision”.

The CRC aims to collaboratively develop computational models of biological vision to be shared with the global vision science community. The free-floating fellow will be able to work with the groups of the CRC with a focus on model comparison and benchmarking methods, and can benefit from plenty of opportunities for collaborations with the CRC faculty, including Felix Wichmann, Jakob Macke, Matthias Bethge, Philipp Berens and Katharina Eggensperger at the University of Tübingen.

*Your Responsibilities*
The successful candidate will develop and evaluate metrics and benchmarks for assessing the similarity between model-responses and empirical data. The intrinsic variability of neural and behavioural data, and the data-limitations of experiments, as well as the complexity of artificial neural networks all constitute significant challenges when comparing models and data. The postdoctoral fellow will be responsible for driving the envisaged research project but is also encouraged to bring to bear her/his expertise and interest in the generation of new approaches.

*Your Profile*
The ideal candidate must have an advanced degree (MSc, PhD or equivalent qualification) in a relevant field and would have a background in computational modelling and machine learning, ideally in the context of computer vision, human vision or mechanistic modelling. Excellent programming skills in Python are a requirement. Knowledge of classical statistics would be a plus, as are strong communication and writing skills.

*What we offer*
The Tübingen machine learning, neuroscience and human vision scene is vibrant, with many excellent labs and institutions within walking or cycling distance. The postdoctoral fellow will be well integrated into this research landscape with ample opportunities for collaborations.
Tübingen is a university town of 90,000 inhabitants and 28,000 students, combining the flair of a beautifully restored medieval centre of town with the colorful bustle and typical atmosphere of a young and cosmopolitan students’ town. It offers numerous sidewalk cafés and cozy pubs. The nearby Schönbuch nature park and the Swabian Alb offer plenty of recreational opportunities.

*Application process*
Applications should be sent by March 24, 2025. Starting date is flexible but sooner is preferred over later. The position is offered on a fixed-term basis until the project end (31.12.2028).
We seek to raise the number of women in research and therefore urge qualified women to apply. The University of Tübingen is committed to equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion. Applications from equally qualified candidates with disabilities will be given preference. The employment is carried out by the central administration of the University of Tübingen.
Applications should be sent in a single PDF to administration at bethgelab.org and should contain a CV, a brief statement of research interests, a cover letter with the expected date of availability, relevant certificates and the names of three referees. Please use the subject line “Application: PostDoc CRC”
Informal enquiries may be addressed to the coordinator of the CRC “Robust Vision” ulf.lueder at uni-tuebingen.de.

Yours sincerely,
Felix Wichmann
