Dear colleagues,
Please consider sharing this ad with any of your undergraduate students who
will be graduating this year. Thanks!
*Full-time Lab Manager/Lab Tech Position Available*
The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences and the Neuroscience
Program at Colgate University are seeking applications for a full-time lab
manager/lab tech for its Brain Recording & Cognitive Science (BRCS)
Laboratory. The BRCS lab is a common space that hosts the labs of Casey
Ferrara, Bruce C Hansen, Douglas N Johnson, and Spencer Kelly. Research
conducted in the lab is generally focused on the following themes: 1) how
strategies for communication vary within and between modalities: sign
language, silent gesture, and speech + gesture, and how those strategies
are acquired over time, 2) how the brain codes different visual
environments, and how those codes enable intelligent behavior, 3)
determinants and correlates of visual selective attention; metacognition
and the relationship between metacognition, learning strategies, and
learning outcomes, and 4) how bodily actions influence language production
and comprehension during communication and learning. The work conducted in
the lab is supported by the following methodologies: stationary and remote
high-density EEG, high-definition tDCS, stationary eye-tracking, augmented
and virtual reality eye-tracking, and psychophysics. Additionally, the
BRCS lab is host to a number of transdisciplinary projects with faculty
within and outside of the department.
This is a great position for a recent college graduate who would like to
gain further experience in full-time research setting before applying to
graduate school. The position comes with full benefits. A two-year
commitment is highly preferred. The position is not appropriate for those
with advanced degrees.
The position would ideally start on August 4, 2025. Review of applications
will begin on May 12 and continue until the position is filled.
*Essential Functions:*
Responsibilities include assisting with all aspects of running experiments
that utilize: 1) stationary & remote EEG, 2) high-definition tDCS, 3)
stationary eye-tracking, 4) augmented/virtual reality eye-tracking, and 5)
psychophysical techniques. Specific duties include (but are not limited
to): coordinating and executing multiple experiments, assisting with
experimental set-up (including basic experiment programming), assisting the
PIs and their thesis/research students with EEG sensor
preparation/application/disinfecting, stimulus creation, assisting with the
training of new undergraduate RAs, assisting with classroom and community
outreach demonstrations, data processing, data analysis, data management,
and general lab organization and maintenance.
*Position Requirements:*
This position requires a Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree. A
major in Psychological Science, Neuroscience, Computer Science, or related
field is preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills are
necessary in order to successfully work with numerous undergraduate
research assistants and research participants. Being technologically
savvy, highly organized, and able to work independently are also essential
for this position. The successful candidate will possess some
experience/familiarity with computer programming (e.g., MATLAB, Python,
C/C++, etc.). Some research experience with EEG, brain stimulation,
eye-tracking, motion capture technology, video coding/annotation (e.g.,
ELAN), or AR/VR technology would be useful. Experience with ASL or other
signed languages preferred but not required.
