Postdoctoral Scholar Position - Stiles Lab
The Center for Advanced Human Brain Imaging Research, Rutgers University

A postdoctoral scholar position is available at Rutgers University (located in Piscataway, NJ) for the study of multisensory perception (both behavioral and neuroimaging) in the visually restored (funded by NIH NEI). This project investigates the changes in visual cortical regions resulting from the loss of vision and then its rehabilitation after the critical period. The postdoctoral scholar will analyze an existing MRI data set from Retinal Prosthesis patients, and will collect new MRI data before and after sight-restoring surgery with Optic Chiasm Compression patients. The primary goal of the research is to understand the crossmodal neuroplasticity that occurs during blindness, and the re-adaptation of the visual cortex to rehabilitated vision.

Requirements:
* A Ph.D. and/or M.D., and relevant research experience that includes past training with fMRI.
* Experimental and technical skills including programming (such as in MATLAB or Python)

Note:
* Experience with blind or low vision patient groups is beneficial, but is not a requirement.

The position is available immediately, although consideration will also be given to candidates who would prefer a later start date.

The postdoctoral scholar position is initially for one year, and is potentially renewable based on performance and the continuing availability of research funding.

The Stiles lab is in the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and collaborates with faculty at UCSF, Caltech, and the New Jersey Medical School to study multisensory integration, low vision, blindness, vision restoration, and the neuroethics of implantable devices.

The Center for Advanced Human Brain Imaging Research (CAHBIR) is a recent addition to the Brain Health Institute at Rutgers University. It is an interdisciplinary neuroimaging community with new facilities for MRI, EEG, TMS, and behavioral testing. The center hosts a Human Neuroscience Trainee Seminar series, a Network Neuroscience Interest Group, Pilot MRI Research Grants, travel grants, and frequent tutorials on advanced MRI techniques. As a part of the Brain Health Institute, CAHBIR faculty and trainees also participate in an annual neuroscience symposium, a Cognitive Science Working Group, and a Postdoctoral Scholar Working Group that bridge campuses and medical schools.

Candidates should send a current CV, a statement of research skills and interests, and a list of 3 references to Dr. Noelle R. B. Stiles (ns1608 at rutgers.edu).
