Postdoctoral Position in Jacqueline Walsh-Snow’s Lab at the University of Utah, USA
The Walsh-Snow Lab at the University of Utah is recruiting a Postdoctoral Researcher to join a new NIH/NEI-funded project on the neural basis of real-world object perception.
I am seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research associate to join a project that uses fMRI, behavioral psychophysics, and eye-tracking to investigate the neural basis of real-world object perception. This role offers opportunities to work with adults, children, and patient populations with unique perceptual profiles. The postdoctoral fellow will work closely with Dr. Walsh-Snow and collaborators, including Dr. Marlene Behrmann (University of Pittsburgh), and will travel to Pittsburgh for portions of the fMRI data collection.
Required Skills
• Completed or near completion of a Ph.D. in Psychology, Vision Science, Neuroscience, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline
• Advanced fMRI preprocessing and analysis skills, including multivoxel pattern analysis (MVPA) and multidimensional scaling (MDS)
• Proficiency in programming (MATLAB, Python, R)
Preferred Qualifications
• Domain expertise in the neural basis of perception and action, object perception, visual development, and/or 3-D vision
• Experience with relevant populations (adults, children, patients with perceptual disorders)
• Strong publication record
• Strengths in statistical analysis, problem-solving and written/oral communication
• Ability to excel in both team-based and independent work
Psychology Department and UCAIR
The Psychology Department at the University of Utah has strong expertise in visual perception, action, and spatial cognition, emphasizing ecologically valid and innovative approaches to cognitive neuroscience. Neuroimaging work will be conducted at the Utah Center for Advanced Imaging Research (UCAIR), which houses dedicated 3T research scanners on campus; additional scanning will occur at the University of Pittsburgh.
Living in Salt Lake City
The University of Utah is located in Salt Lake City, at the base of the Wasatch Mountains. The region offers year-round outdoor recreation including skiing, hiking, biking, climbing, and access to 10 National Parks within a day’s drive, along with a vibrant cultural scene of music, theater, dance, and professional sports. Salt Lake City International Airport, a Delta hub, provides direct flights to major U.S. and international destinations.
Position Details and Application Instructions
This is a full-time, fully funded position with benefits. The initial appointment would be for one year, renewable based on performance. The position is open immediately and will remain open until filled. Start date is flexible, with a preferred start date in Fall 2025 and no later than early 2026. Salary will be commensurate with experience following the NIH post-doctoral salary scale.
