Dear colleagues,

From 4 to 6 February 2026, we will be organising the second edition of Vision and Depiction, for which abstract submission is now open and will close on 15 November.

We invite artists, designers, scholars, and scientists interested in the formal aspects of vision and depiction. This focus originates from a reappraisal of formal analysis — particularly those formal elements that bridge science and art, such as texture, colour, light, shape, space, material, motion, and more.
We are also interested in whether these formal elements apply to the representation (motif) or the artwork’s surface (medium) — and how they may interact. Lastly, we welcome contributions exploring the relationship between formal elements and their iconographic or semiotic meaning.

If you are unsure whether your work fits the scope, please feel free to contact us. In practice, there is always a difference between the top-down scope of a conference and how it unfolds in reality. If you are curious about how the previous edition turned out, you can visit the Vision and Depiction 2024 archive<https://visionanddepiction.github.io/program2024>.

Visit the conference website<https://visionanddepiction.github.io/> for all details, including our selection of keynote speakers, the full timeline, and registration information.
Please feel free to forward this email to anyone who might be interested.

We hope to see many of you in Delft from 4 to 6 February 2026!

On behalf of the organising committee,
Maarten Wijntjes
