Applied Vision Science Meeting

We are delighted to announce the inaugural meeting of Applied Vision Science
(AVS). This one-day conference will be held on May 20, 2026, the Wednesday
immediately following the annual meeting of the Vision Sciences Society, in
St. Pete Beach, Florida.

Purpose

The purpose of this meeting is to gather and highlight the highest quality
research in applied vision science, and to share it with both the applied
and basic science communities. We are interested not in applications per se,
but in the science behind them. It is our view that this work is scattered
among a range of venues that are either expensive, or that consider vision
as an afterthought, or that are not attended by the larger vision science
community. It is our hope that by bringing the best applied vision science
to what is already the best vision science conference, we can benefit both
communities.

Topics

The range of topics is broad, and the examples below illustrate some of the
most prominent areas of applied vision. The emphasis is on the vision
science underlying practical applications. Clinical topics that are already
well served by meetings such as ARVO fall outside the scope of this
conference.

*     Display design

*     Optical design

*     AR/VR/MR

* Image and video coding and compression

* Camera design and computational photography

* Stereoscopic capture, coding, and display

*     Color coding and display

*     High dynamic range imaging

*     Computer graphics

*     User Interface Design

Organization

The conference is being organized by Andrew Watson and Laurie Wilcox in
collaboration with the Vision Sciences Society.

Venue

The AVS meeting will be held at the Tradewinds Island Grand, 5500 Gulf Blvd,
St Pete Beach, FL 33706. This is also the venue for the VSS meeting in 2026.
Hotel reservations can be made at the VSS conference site.

Registration and Abstract Submission

Details regarding registration and abstract submission will be provided
shortly. We expect to invite both lecture and poster presentations.

Fees

In order to encourage wide participation, especially from students,
registration fees have been set as low as possible

Student $50

Postdoc $50

We are seeking support from corporate partners, through Sponsorship or
Corporate Membership. Further details on those arrangements can be provided
upon request.

Join Us!

This is the first year of what we hope will become a great tradition,
