*Start your PhD with an FPU grant at the Color Imaging Lab (UGR)*
Would you like to research with multispectral and hyperspectral
imaging—from ultraviolet to infrared—for the non-invasive analysis of
artworks and cultural heritage, and turn those data into applied science
with real impact?
At the Color Imaging Lab (University of Granada) we are seeking
motivated FPU candidates to join the team and carry out their PhD in a
cutting-edge, collaborative environment.
*What does the Color Imaging Lab offer?*
*
State-of-the-art theoretical and practical training in advanced
imaging technology: hyperspectral cameras across several spectral
ranges (visible, infrared, and ultraviolet), multispectral cameras,
spectroradiometers, thermal cameras, advanced image processing
techniques, and algorithms for
classification/segmentation/recoloring for various applications.
*
Access to other instruments (X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction,
Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, macrophotography) thanks to
our national and international collaborations.
*
Strong publication record in leading international journals across
different fields (Scientific Reports, Optics Express, Scientific
Data, Optics Letters, Microchemical Journal, Lighting Research &
Technology, Vision Research, etc.).
*
Scientific diversity as a hallmark: our team includes physicists,
telecom engineers, opticians-optometrists, and computer scientists.
We actively collaborate with experts in fine arts, restoration,
biology, electronic engineering, agriculture, environment,
archaeology, and renewable energies.
*
Connection with industry: we work closely with international and
national companies through projects and research contracts. Thanks
to this ongoing interaction, our lines of work don’t remain on
paper: they become applicable solutions with global reach.
*
Joining the ASTRA research project—a multidisciplinary initiative
that brings together advanced imaging technology, art, and data
analysis; it has received funding in the latest national call for
knowledge-generation projects and includes a team of experts and
institutions at both national and international levels.
*Possible research topics*
*
Acquisition, processing, and analysis of multi/hyperspectral images
(visible, UV, NIR/SWIR).
*
Non-invasive techniques for the analysis of artworks.
*
Creation of advanced digital twins of artworks.
*
Machine learning for spectral data analysis: detection,
classification, unmixing, etc.
*
Modeling of color perception and analysis of color-vision deficiencies.
*What awaits you at the Color Imaging Lab?*
*
Guided growth: close mentoring throughout your PhD journey, from
your first publications to the final defense.
*
Projects with direction: you’ll work on a realistic, ambitious
research plan with measurable goals that will pave the way for your
scientific career.
*
A lab open to the world: we collaborate with international
universities, centers, and companies so your work has impact beyond
Granada.
*
Transversal training: you’ll learn not only science, but also how to
communicate and disseminate it.
*
International mobility: research stays and conferences when they
truly boost your project.
*Who are we looking for?*
*
Students in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, or
related fields eager to move into a PhD.
*
Strong academic record and sufficient English to read, write, and
communicate science.
*
Curious, rigorous, motivated people who aim to make a mark with a
high-quality thesis.
*
Programming skills beyond basic coursework, preferably in Matlab
and/or Python.
*How to express interest*
*
We want to hear from you: email*colorimg at ugr.es*with your CV,
academic transcript, and a motivation letter.
*
Tell us what inspires you, what you have studied or are studying,
and what you would like to research.
