Dear colleagues,
I am sharing the message below on behalf of Zhong-Lin Lu, a longtime mentor and dear friend, and a deeply respected and beloved member of our vision science community. Those who know Zhong-Lin know his kindness and generosity, and how much he has given to our field and to generations of students and colleagues.
I would be very grateful if you could take a moment to read his message and, if possible, help share it through your networks. Simply sharing his message may help it reach someone who can make a difference. Thank you very much for your kindness and support.
Best,
MiYoung
"Dear friends and colleagues,
I am writing to ask for your help with something very personal.
As some of you know, I have Stage 5 kidney disease and need a kidney transplant. I have created a page through the National Kidney Registry to share my story and information about living kidney donation:
https://nkr.org/EFB886 <https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Fnkr.org%2FEFB886&data=05%7C02%7Cm.kwon%40northeastern.edu%7C16162dddf60e4211e22c08def9853e0e%7Ca8eec281aaa34daeac9b9a398b9215e7%7C0%7C0%7C639222547881603311%7CUnknown%7CTWFpbGZsb3d8eyJFbXB0eU1hcGkiOnRydWUsIlYiOiIwLjAuMDAwMCIsIlAiOiJXaW4zMiIsIkFOIjoiTWFpbCIsIldUIjoyfQ%3D%3D%7C0%7C%7C%7C&sdata=T6yYcfjuYBK5JQmO7ZGDwpJLfg8iyUkO4mh%2F4vSiZlM%3D&reserved=0>
I know that living donation is an extraordinary and deeply personal decision, and I would never want anyone to feel pressured to consider it.
What I am asking from you is simpler: please help me spread the word. If you feel comfortable, I would be very grateful if you would share my page with friends, colleagues, former students, or others in your network. The person who may ultimately be able to help could be someone I have never met.
Over the past few weeks, while writing A Life in Progress, I have been reminded again and again how much my life has depended on people who opened doors and extended a hand at unexpected moments.
Now I find myself asking for help.
Thank you for reading, for sharing, and for being part of my life.
Zhong-Lin"
