Dear friends and colleagues,
A Research Assistant position will soon open in the HUB project at the
University
of Coimbra <https://www.uc.pt/>, for 12 months (full-time), funded through
the CogBooster ERA Chair (Horizon Europe). The project investigates how the
brain reorganizes in congenital blindness, focusing on crossmodal cortical
and subcortical plasticity, using behavioral testing and fMRI with blind
and sighted participants.
The position involves:
- liaising with blind and sighted research participants — explaining the
project, arranging their visits, and supporting them throughout testing
- supporting the acquisition of behavioral and fMRI data
- contributing to data analysis and scientific writing
- helping with project outreach and dissemination (conferences,
communications, bibliography)
The work will be carried out at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational
Sciences <https://www.uc.pt/fpce/>, University of Coimbra
<https://www.uc.pt/en/>, for 12 months (full-time), with full access to
imaging and behavioral facilities associated with the Proaction Lab
<https://proactionlab.fpce.uc.pt/>, and CINEICC <https://www.uc.pt/cineicc/>
and collaborating groups. The position is available immediately, and the
exact start date can be adjusted to the selected candidate’s availability.
Required:
- Master's degree in Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Biomedical
Engineering, or a related area
- Fluent in Portuguese — this is essential, since the role involves
explaining the study and running sessions with Portuguese-speaking
participants
- Good with people — comfortable putting participants at ease and
explaining the project clearly, whether on the phone or in person.
Desirable (not required):
- Interest or experience in quantitative/analytical work (data analysis,
programming, statistics)
- Prior experience working with people with visual impairments or other
special populations
- Interest in eventually pursuing a PhD
The official call will open in mid-to-late September 2026 with applications
through the university's usual process. If you (or someone you know) might
be a good fit, feel free to reach out beforehand with a CV and a short note
— happy to answer questions informally before the formal application:
