Hi colleagues,

The Intelligent Systems and Assistive Technologies Lab (ISAT) at Purdue University is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral researcher to help develop the next generation of autonomous and cloud laboratories for advanced experimentation and research. This position combines robotics, manufacturing, automation, AI to develop autonomous research workflows for advanced materials. The emphasis is on robotics planning, manipulation, robot coordination and collaboration. We aim to have robots run experiments involving ceramics, refractory alloys, 2D materials, and non-equilibrium materials.

The postdoc researcher will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of researchers involved in Purdue's Intelligent Codesign Cloud Lab for Non-Equilibrium and Low-Dimensional Materials (ICoN). The position offers close collaboration with experts in AI, autonomy, data science, and computational modeling of materials, and interaction with a large team of researchers across the Purdue ICoN node, led by Professor Alejandro Strachan<https://www.linkedin.com/in/alestrachan/>, and other NSF Programmable Cloud Laboratory (PCL) nodes. The postdoctoral researcher will be advised by Professor Juan Wachs<https://www.linkedin.com/in/juan-p-wachs-1033b77/>, and will work closely with the Aniket Bera<https://www.linkedin.com/in/abera/> group, specifically, and the rest of the PCL node such as Babak Anasori<https://www.linkedin.com/in/babak-anasori-a4213548/> and Michael Titus<https://www.linkedin.com/in/michaelstitus/>.

Desired Background
Ideal candidates will have experience in several of the following areas:

  *   Laboratory automation and robotics
  * Robot motion planning and manipulation
  * Reinforcement learning and learning by imitation
  * Digital programming such as ROS, Unity, Isaac Sim, etc.
  *   High-throughput or autonomous experimentation
  * AI or machine learning for scientific research

Why Apply?
Technical Opportunity:
This position is intended for researchers who enjoy working at the intersection of AI, robotic learning, automation, manufacturing, and are interested in developing new autonomous research capabilities for autonomous experimentation.

Professional Development:
As with all postdoctoral researchers in my group and at Purdue, this position includes strong mentorship in scientific writing, proposal development, presentation skills, mentoring, leadership, career planning, and developing effective research and writing habits.
