online course on Unity and VR

In case this is of interest, I'm teaching a short course at the Color and Imaging Conference next month, on creating experiments with Unity and VR. The conference is in Barcelona, but the course will be online. The course will be held on Friday, October 30, 2026, in two segments, 10:00 am - 12:00 pm and 2:15 - 4:15 pm EST.

Unity is a great environment for running experiments in 3D rendered scenes, but there are many, not always well-documented details that have to be handled right in order to create well-controlled stimuli. I'll cover those in this course, and one of the main benefits of attending is that you may save a lot of time compared to figuring out those details on your own.

I'll also cover aspects of Unity that aren't common in other psychophysical environments, such as the C# language, luminance calibration via tone mapping, and coding an experiment through callback functions.

Feel free to write to me (rfm at yorku.ca) with questions about the course. You can find more information here:

Best,

Richard Murray
