<p class="MsoNormal">A postdoctoral fellow position is available
in the <a href="http://aplab.bu.edu/">Active Perception
Laboratory</a> at Boston
University to study the contributions of eye movements to the
establishment of
spatial representations and the encoding of visual information.
The
research is part of an ongoing NIH-funded collaboration between
Dr. Michele
Rucci, and Dr. Jonathan Victor at Weill Cornell Medical College.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Research in the laboratory relies on the
integration of a
variety of techniques, including testing of human vision with
highly controlled
retinal stimulation, computational modeling of the visual
system, and analysis
of the retinal input signals caused by normal and abnormal
oculomotor
activity. The laboratory is equipped with state-of-the-art
tools for
high-resolution recording of head and eye movements, EEG
recordings, and for
precisely manipulating the stimuli on the retinas during motor
behavior.
If interested, the applicant can also participate in the ongoing
development of
a virtual reality system for gaze-contingent display control and
a new
eye-tracking method. Examples of results from the laboratory
include the
findings that eye movements contribute to perceptual dynamics (<a
href="http://www.cell.com/current-biology/fulltext/S0960-9822%2817%2930332-9">Boi
et al Curr Biol, 2017</a>) and high-acuity vision (<a
href="http://www.nature.com/nature/journal/v447/n7146/abs/nature05866.html">Rucci
et al, Nature 2007</a>) and are controlled with surprising
precision (<a
href="http://www.nature.com/neuro/journal/v13/n12/full/nn.2663.html">Ko
et al

<p class="MsoNormal">The ideal candidate will be a highly
motivated individual
with quantitative background and demonstrated interest in
applying quantitative
methods to neuroscience. Experience working in visual
perception is
preferred, though not a requirement. Experience with signal
processing, Matlab,
and C/C++ is highly desirable. Previous exposure with
hardware/software
real-time systems is a plus.<o:p></o:p></p>
