the UCL Institute of Ophthalmology in London to join an existing, ongoing project funded by the BBSRC. The project is to build, program and operate a high-performance adaptive optics (AO) visual stimulator and then to use it to test visual performance at and
beyond the usual optical and neural limits. The post holder will be responsible for assisting the team with all aspects of the BBSRC project, but in particular the final building of the AO stimulator and its development and programming as a useful psychophysical
testing device. The successful candidate should have a first degree in physics or engineering and a Ph.D. in a field related to optics and/or vision research. Experience in optical engineering and in the design and construction of optical instruments is essential.
In addition, experience with optical design software (e.g., Zemax), computer programming (e.g., MatLab or Python) and the generation of visual stimuli (e.g., using PsychToolbox or PsychoPy) is desirable. Experience with human perceptual or psychological measurements,
computer modelling and electronics would all be assets. Quantitative and English writing skills and a strong scientific background with laboratory experience are essential.
