<p class="MsoNormal" style="margin-bottom:12.0pt;background:white"><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#333333;mso-fareast-language:EN-GB">Glaucoma is an eye condition that affects a large proportion of the elderly
 population. Surprisingly little is known about the problems patients with glaucoma have in different lighting conditions. It may be that these problems emerge before measurable vision loss occurs in standard clinical tests. A better understanding of these
 functional difficulties might highlight the need for earlier and sustained treatment.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal" style="background:white"><b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#333333;mso-fareast-language:EN-GB">Responsibilities<br>
</span></b><span lang="EN-US" style="font-size:9.0pt;font-family:"Arial",sans-serif;color:#333333;mso-fareast-language:EN-GB">First, we will undergo a systematic review of the literature on the problems of everyday lighting and darkness that impacts on people
 with glaucoma. Next, we will assess impact of lighting conditions on performance of everyday mobility tasks in a lab-based study. These experiments will take advantage of an instrument that examines the recovery of vision when going from daylight to darkness.
 The study will also examine the relationship between clinical tests of vision, patient reported measures and mobility tasks in a kitchen or living environment. The latter will take advantage of a state-of-the-art research facility at City, University of London.<br>
