<p><span style="font-weight:400;font-size:21px">Assistant Professor in Design</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight:400">The Design Lab at UC San Diego (</span><a href="https://designlab.ucsd.edu/"><span style="font-weight:400">https://designlab.ucsd.edu</span></a><span style="font-weight:400">)
seeks candidates for tenure-track faculty positions at the Assistant
Professor rank. The Design Lab at UC San Diego is a new initiative,
established by the chancellor to become a major international center for
human-centered design, with the focus upon design as a way of thinking,
especially dealing with a people-centered approach to complex
sociotechnical systems. </span></p>
<p>The Design Lab works with departments and divisions throughout the
University. 2019 Design Recruiting is partnering with eight departments:
Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical & Computer
Engineering, Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Structural
Engineering, Cognitive Science, Psychology, Infectious Diseases, Family
Medicine & Public Health, and Psychiatry. In your cover letter,
please indicate which of these department(s) you think might be a good
fit for your research & teaching. It is unlikely that we will hire
in 2019 outside these departments. That said, we welcome applications in
all areas. Design is hiring through three advertised recruitments: the
Social Sciences, Engineering disciplines, and Medical fields. Please

the department/area that best fits your work in your cover letter.</p>
<p><span style="font-weight:400">Assistant Professor candidates must
have completed a terminal degree–such as a PhD, MD or equivalent
doctoral degree, or relevant terminal master’s degree and show great
promise in teaching, service and research. Preferred candidates will
have published human-centered research in conference and/or journal
articles in highly-regarded peer-reviewed venues;</span><span style="font-weight:400"> be able to demonstrate the potential for teaching excellence as they will be expected </span><span style="font-weight:400">to
supervise and teach graduate and undergraduate students in
design-related courses; demonstrate the highest standards of scholarship
and professional activity; and contribute to a campus climate that
supports equity, inclusion, and diversity. An interdisciplinary
perspective and experience with multiple methodologies is highly valued.
Candidates with experience with or willingness to engage in activities
that contribute to diversity and inclusion are especially encouraged to
apply. The successful applicant will be expected to establish a
vigorous program of high-quality funded design research.</span></p>
