<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">One PhD and one post-doc
position are
available in the Visual and Cognitive Neuroscience Lab, headed
by Dr. Petra
Vetter at the Dept. of Psychology of the University of Fribourg
in Switzerland.
The positions are funded by the Swiss National Science
Foundation to study the
influence of audition on vision and eye movements in the absence
of visual
awareness. The projects will bridge research in
multisensory/audiovisual
perception, eye movements and consciousness using psychophysics,
eye tracking,
fMRI and possibly EEG. Information on past and current research

<p><b><span lang="EN-GB">PhD position </span></b><span lang="EN-GB">(fully
funded for 3 years, with a possible extension to 4 years):</span></p>
<span lang="EN-GB">Required qualifications and skills:</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Masters degree in Psychology, Cognitive
Neuroscience or related field</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Experience in psychological
experimentation</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Basic programming skills and/or high
motivation to become proficient in Matlab and R</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Strong analytical and statistical skills</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Ability to work independently</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Good scientific writing and communication
skills (in English)</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">Desired:</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Basic experience with cognitive
neuroscience methods, e.g. psychophysics, eye tracking, fMRI, EEG
or similar.</span><br>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><span lang="EN-GB">Post-doc position </span></b><span
lang="EN-GB">(2 years, possibly with an extension, depending on
experience):</span></p>
<span lang="EN-GB">Required qualifications and skills:</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience or related
field, e.g. Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science, Computer
Science,
Engineering or similar.</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Programming proficiency, preferably in
Matlab, R, or Python.</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Excellent analytical and statistical
skills</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Experience in designing, conducting and
analysing fMRI experiments</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Experience in designing, conducting and
analysing behavioural and/or EEG experiments</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Excellent scientific writing and
communication skills, documented by peer-reviewed publications</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Ability to work independently </span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Ability to supervise junior students</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">Desired:</span><br>
<span lang="EN-GB">- Experience in advanced fMRI analysis
methods, e.g. retinotopic mapping, multi-variate pattern analysis,
representational similarity analysis, or machine learning
approaches.</span><br>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">The positions do not require
teaching, but
there is the opportunity to gain teaching and supervision
experience if desired.
The University of Fribourg is a bilingual university (French
& German).
Basic French or German language skills are an advantage but not
a requirement. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">Switzerland is multilingual
and
multicultural, offers a high standard of living and great
opportunities for
outdoor activities. Fribourg is a vibrant student city located
between Bern and
Lausanne, both lie within commuting distance. Salaries are in
accordance with
the guidelines of the Swiss National Science Foundation and the
University of
Fribourg. Start dates are flexible, for the PhD position the
ideal start date
would be autumn 2021.</span></p>
