Funding is available for at least two years, assuming satisfactory progress each year. Individuals up to a year out from graduation are encouraged to apply. <o:p></o:p></span></pre>

<pre><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">The first project (PI Fine) examines auditory processing in early blind individuals using a combination of psychophysics and fMRI. <o:p></o:p></span></pre>

<pre><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">The second project (co-PIs Fine & Boynton) involves generating and psychophysically testing computational models which predict the percepts that patients might experience for a variety of sight recovery technologies (retinal electrical, cortical electrical, optogenetics).<o:p></o:p></span></pre>

<pre><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Most competitive applicants will have an established publication record, programming skills and the ability to work independently. Prior experience with physiology, visual psychophysics and/or fMRI methods is also a plus. However, our laboratory fully recognizes the influence of different backgrounds on the opportunity to gain skills, and is fully committed to fostering talent. <o:p></o:p></span></pre>

<pre><span style="font-family:"Palatino Linotype",serif">Geoff Boynton and Ione Fine are members of the VisCog<<a href="https://courses.washington.edu/viscog/people.html">https://courses.washington.edu/viscog/people.html</a>> group, which is highly collaborative, with interests spanning autism spectrum disorder, MR methodology, visual perception and attention, visual prostheses, and the effects of blindness and open science. Methodologies include psychophysics, neuroimaging, computational modeling and data science. Faculty include Ione Fine, Geoff Boynton, Scott Murray, Ariel Rokem and John Palmer. Our goal is to create a community where individuals with different backgrounds and skillsets learn from each other. <o:p></o:p></span></pre>
