The PI has previously developed a quantitative framework to study object recognition using decision-making models (Okazawa et al., Nat Comm 2018). We showed that human face categorization could be accounted for as linear integration of spatiotemporal sensory evidence (Okazawa et al., J Neurosci 2021) and neural population in the monkey parietal cortex encodes decision formation on a curved manifold in state space (Okazawa et al., Cell 2021). The lab plans to use large-scale neural recording techniques to further the understanding of the core principles of decision-making processes during object recognition. The projects will involve training of monkeys on tasks, population recordings from multiple cortical areas, and perturbation of neural activity during population recordings. The candidate is also expected to be involved in human psychophysics and computational modeling. The lab working language is English. Ph.D. degree in neuroscience or a related field.<br class="">2. Prior experience in electrophysiology, imaging, or related techniques in non-human primates, humans, or rodents. Experience in non-human primates is a significant plus.<br class="">3. Experience in writing papers for international journals.<br class="">4. Strong programming experience (Matlab or Python). Background in computational modeling is a significant plus.<br class="">5. Proficiency in spoken and written English.<br class="">6.
