<b><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Event Description: </span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) has served as a powerful and non-invasive tool to understand brain function and to induce neuroplasticity in healthy individuals
and clinical populations. Most studies have delivered TMS to the motor cortex to measure peripheral motor responses, while others have delivered TMS to visual cortex to measure phosphenes experienced in the visual field.<span>
</span>TMS has also recently been used in conjunction with electroencephalography (EEG) to measure responses from multiple brain regions. In this talk, I will provide an overview of TMS, including how this technique can be used to measure brain activity and
to induce plasticity, technical/methodological considerations associated with TMS and TMS combined with EEG, and what knowledge has been gained using TMS, particularly in relation to visual function.

<b><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Speaker Biography: <span> </span></span></b><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Dr Nahian Chowdhury is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Neuroscience Research Australia (2020-present). Prior to this he did a PhD at the University
of Sydney (2016-2020). Dr Chowdhury uses tools such as transcranial magnetic stimulation to understand the mechanisms of various cognitive (e.g., response inhibition) and sensory processes (e.g., visual/vestibular processes and pain). In his current role,
he is using TMS and other non-invasive neuroscience tools to understand the mechanisms involved in pain processing.<span>
