Mick Bonner (Assistant Professor of Cognitive Science, Johns Hopkins) and Brice Ménard (Professor of Physics, Johns Hopkins) are hiring a postdoc to work on scientific explorations at the interface of computational neuroscience and machine learning. The postdoc
will join a collaborative team investigating the fundamental principles that govern neural representations in high dimensions, with a focus on vision. </p>

Recent findings show that the neural representations of vision as well as other sensory and cognitive domains are surprisingly high-dimensional. This new perspective implies that traditional dimensionality reduction techniques and small-scale models and datasets
do not allow us to fundamentally understand these systems. A new point of view is needed. Interestingly, there appear to be unique and surprising computational phenomena that emerge in high dimensions. These findings call for high-dimensional methods and theories
for understanding how vision is implemented in both machine-learning systems and brains. Guided by data (involving fMRI and electrophysiology data) and experiments with deep neural networks, this project is expected to lead to new and deeper insights into
the fundamental principles of neural representation. </p>
