3 January after a courageous battle with liver cancer.</span><br>

<span style="font-size:12.0pt">Sophie did her undergrad studies at the University of Regensburg, then moved to the States for her PhD at NYU with Michael Landy and John Krauskopf. After a postdoc with Krauskopf and Larry Maloney she moved to the UK, where she
briefly worked as a postdoc at UCL and then moved on to hold permanent positions at the University of Keele and then at Liverpool.

<span style="font-size:12.0pt">Sophie excelled both in basic and applied research - grounded in her own cutting-edge fundamental research on biological colour mechanisms and colour appearance, her masterful applications of this knowledge spanned the fields
as wide-ranging as colour remapping for advanced display technologies, skin imaging and 3D printing, and clinical applications of colour and light. She also had a very active and innovative research programme of multisensory perception, conducted collaboratively
with her husband Dr Georg Meyer.</span></p>

<span style="font-size:12.0pt">I spent a year working as Sophie's graduate research assistant in 2003/4 and was delighted to get the opportunity to return to her lab after my PhD. I couldn't have wished for a better mentor than Sophie - beyond just gaining
scientific skills and knowledge, I learned a whole load of other things that cannot be easily put into words, a formative experience that happens when you have the privilege of working with such a wonderful, generous and spontaneous person, proactive, positive
and energetic, with an optimistic and practical outlook, excited about what each day - in the lab and beyond - would bring. I know I am not the only one who will miss Sophie hugely - going to conferences will never be the same without sharing a laugh, discussing
all the research on show and coming up with exciting new ideas together.</span></p>
