This opportunity is part of the ERC-funded DEEPFUNC project, aimed at unraveling the ‘what', ‘how' and ‘why' of functional specialization in the human visual cortex using deep neural networks. The start date is flexible, but the sooner, the better! The position is initially for 2 years, with potential for extension.

Situated within the Psychology Department, our lab is at the forefront of cognitive computational neuroscience. We combine human cognitive science with neuroscience and machine learning, focusing especially on visual cognition. We’re using a wide range of methods, from computational modeling of vision and psychophysical approaches to the application of advanced neuroimaging techniques like fMRI and EEG. These tools help us understand the behavioral and neural mechanisms underlying human visual processing and cognition. However, we’re also keen to meet exceptional candidates from other disciplines. Valuable skills include:

- Experience in human visual neuroscience and computational modeling.
- Proficiency in machine learning, particularly deep learning.
- Familiarity with human neuroimaging techniques and behavioral experiments.
The lab and department have excellent links to scientists within Europe and worldwide, offering a vibrant, multicultural and interdisciplinary research atmosphere. We’re associated with several large-scale research clusters, such as The Adaptive Mind, SFB Cardinal Mechanisms of Perception and the Center for Mind, Brain and Behavior. Our lab strives to provide an inclusive, diverse and supportive environment. There are plenty of opportunities for professional development from student mentoring, attending international conferences to participating in professional workshops. You’ll join a dynamic community, engage in high-impact collaborative projects, and enjoy living in Giessen, a university town close to Frankfurt.

Please submit your application by April 15th, 2024, using the online application form at https://www.uni-giessen.de/karriere/stellenangebote/application.
