<b><u><span lang="EN-GB">PhD and Post-doc position available
in Switzerland </span></u></b>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">One PhD and one post-doc
position are
available in the Visual and Cognitive Neuroscience Lab, headed
by Petra Vetter
at the Dept. of Psychology of the University of Fribourg in
Switzerland. The
positions are funded by a Swiss Consolidator Grant (“Mapping
Space in the Blind
Brain”) to study space representation in the brain of
congenitally blind
individuals. The projects will involve designing auditory and
tactile spatial
localisation experiments, recruitment and testing of
congenitally blind
individuals and sighted participants, using ultra-high field
fMRI at 7 Tesla,
advanced fMRI analysis methods and TMS. </span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal"><b><u><span lang="EN-GB">PhD position </span></u></b><u><span lang="EN-GB">(fully funded for 3 years, with a possible
extension to 4 years):<b></b></span></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">Required qualifications and
skills:</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Masters degree in
Psychology, Cognitive
Neuroscience or related field, with a minimum grade of a Swiss 5
(= 2<sup>nd</sup>
best grade, equivalent to a UK 2.1/German 2/US B) </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Experience in
psychological lab
experimentation</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Basic programming skills
and/or high
motivation to become proficient in programming</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Strong analytical and
statistical skills</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Ability to work
independently</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Good scientific writing
and communication
skills (in English)</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">Desired:</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Basic experience with
cognitive
neuroscience methods, e.g. psychophysics, fMRI, TMS, EEG.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b><u><span lang="EN-GB">Post-doc position </span></u></b><u><span lang="EN-GB">(funding available for 3.5 years):</span></u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">Required qualifications and
skills:</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- PhD in Cognitive
Neuroscience or related
field, e.g. Psychology, Neuroscience, Cognitive Science,
Computer Science,
Engineering or similar</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Programming proficiency,
preferably in Python,
R, or Matlab</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Excellent analytical and
statistical
skills</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Experience in designing,
conducting and
analysing fMRI experiments</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Excellent scientific
writing and
communication skills, documented by peer-reviewed publications</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Ability to work
independently </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Ability to supervise
junior students</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">Desired:</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Experience in advanced
fMRI analysis
methods, e.g. population receptive field modelling,
multi-variate pattern
analysis, representational similarity analysis, retinotopic
mapping or
machine-learning approaches.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Experience with 7 Tesla
fMRI</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">- Experience in conducting
TMS experiments.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">The positions do not require
teaching, but
there is the opportunity to gain teaching and supervision
experience. The
University of Fribourg is a bilingual university (French &
German). Basic
French or German language skills are an advantage but not a
requirement. </span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span lang="EN-GB">Switzerland is multilingual
and
multicultural, offers a high standard of living and great
opportunities for
outdoor activities. Fribourg is a vibrant student city located
between Bern and
Lausanne, both lie within easy commuting distance. Zurich and
Geneva are
commutable, too. Salaries are in accordance with the guidelines
of the Swiss
National Science Foundation and the University of Fribourg.
Start dates are
flexible, for the PhD position the ideal start date would be
autumn 2024.</span></p>
