*Job description (Research Technician High Resolution Imaging 
Systems/Optomechatronics) at TU Delft, The Netherlands.*


The Control for High Resolution Imaging Group of the Delft University of 
technology is seeking a highly skilled technician who is ready to take 
on challenging specialized technical support to research groups in the 
design, development, manufacture, maintenance and installation of 
scientific instruments and research laboratory equipment.

Typical duties include managing of equipment and assisting scientific 
staff (PhD, Postdoc and professors) in their plans of realizing 
state-of-the-art development of scientific instruments and experimental 
setups. This includes supporting staff with 3D component design, 
electronic prototyping, and programming. The ability to thrive and 
actively participate in a fast developing collaborative research 
environment is key.

The candidate should have a profound background in opto-mechatronics, or 
willingness to develop one. Besides optics, an affinity with electronics 
and programming is required. In addition, the successful candidate 
should demonstrate experience in developing and maintaining embedded 
control software solutions for multi-agent system applications and 
experimental testing, such as the use of customised, or commercial 
off-the-shelf (COTS) components for autonomous, unmanned vehicle 
platforms (UAVs, mobile robots, and small-scale vehicles).

Examples of ongoing projects:

  * Lightsheet microscopy
  * Adaptive optics
  * 3D and 4D imaging
  * Super resolution nanoscopy imaging
  * Cooperative quadrotor formation control, multi-agent robotic
    manipulation and swarms
  * Fast autonomous vehicles with on-board optimization and control
  * Inertial sensor-based, minimalistic multi-robot SLAM
  * Speedgoat real-time systems for embedded simulation and fleet testing.

*Requirements:*

The following qualifications are needed:

  * MSc or PhD Degree in physics, optics, engineering, or computer science.
  * Good understanding of optical, electrical and opto-mechatronic
    design concepts.
  * Practical knowledge of optics and experimental laboratories.
  * Practices, such as 3D printing and development in
    embedded/resource-constrained platforms such as Arduino, Raspberry
    Pi, Pixhawk, among others, and/or willing to learn and develop these
    practices.
  * Familiarity with design software such as SolidWorks, Zemax, among
    others, and/or willing to develop these software skills.
  * Experience in ROS and knowledge of programming languages
    Matlab/Simulink Real-Time, Python, Java, C/C++ will be beneficial.
  * Excellent communication skills in English.
  * Ability to prioritise, plan, and work in a team.

Conditions of employment

This position has an amount of 38 working hours per week (1, 0 fte).

The offer contains a temporary appointment with the prospect of 
permanent. The salary is based on scale 10 with a maximum of € 4.274,- 
gross per month on a fulltime basis. TU Delft offers a customisable 
compensation package, a discount for health insurance and sport 
memberships, and a monthly work costs contribution. Flexible work 
schedules can be arranged. An International Children’s Centre offers 
child care and an international primary school. Dual Career Services 
offers support to accompanying partners. Salary and benefits are in 
accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities.
