Two post-doctoral positions are available in John Henderson’s Visual Cognition Lab in the Center for Mind and Brain at UC Davis (viscoglab.ucdavis.edu<http://viscoglab.ucdavis.edu>). The positions are funded by grants from the National Science Foundation and the National Eye Institute of NIH focusing on the influence of scene semantics on attention during scene perception and and scene understanding.

Highly motivated candidates with a PhD in cognitive psychology, cognitive science, cognitive neuroscience, or a related field, and a research focus in visual cognition are encouraged to apply. We approach the study of attention and scenes using behavioral, computational, and neuroimaging techniques, and a background in any of these methods would be suitable. Strong analytic and writing skills are essential, and strong coding skills are an advantage. A record of published research is also expected. Salary will be at University of California post-doctoral rates commensurate with experience. Initial appoints are for 2 years and the positions are available immediately. The research is based in Davis California, but given health concerns related to the Covid-19 pandemic, a remote start is negotiable for applicants already residing in the US.

We are committed to making the study of human perception and cognition a more diverse field, and encourage applications from individuals from underrepresented groups.

Interested candidates should start with an introductory email to John Henderson (johnhenderson at ucdavis.edu<mailto:johnhenderson at ucdavis.edu>) describing educational background and research interests before submitting a formal application. Formal applications will include CV, publication list, brief statement of research interests, and letters of reference. Applications will be assessed as they arrive, with start date flexible but ideally in Fall 2020.

The lab is located at the Center for Mind and Brain, a vibrant community of faculty, post-docs, and graduate students. The lab is affiliated with the UC Davis Department of Psychology, Visual Cognition Research Group, Language, Cognition, and Brain Sciences group, Imaging Research Center, Center for Neuroscience, and Center for Vision Science. We are a highly collaborative lab and post-docs have opportunities to work on cross-lab projects with other members of the UC Davis perception, cognition, and cognitive neuroscience community.

The bicycle-friendly town of Davis is in an ideal Northern California location, close to Sacramento (20 min), San Francisco, Napa Valley, Sonoma Valley, the Northern California coast, and the Sierra Nevada Mountains.

The University of California is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, or protected veteran status. UC Davis is committed to maintaining an atmosphere that is free from all forms of discrimination, harassment, exploitation, and intimidation.
