I am excited to announce the release of PupilEXT, a cross-platform (Mac, Win, Linux) open-source pupillometry framework suited for high-resolution pupil diameter measurements with machine vision cameras in real-time.

A detailed manual on how to set up the system is available at the project’s GitHub repository:

https://github.com/openPupil/Open-PupilEXT

The paper about the proposed pupillometry system is available here:

https://www.frontiersin.org/articles/10.3389/fnins.2021.676220/full

Furthermore, we provide video tutorials that walk through the interface of PupilEXT:

Tutorial 1/3 (Stereo camera recording): https://vimeo.com/564556788

Tutorial 2/3 (Single camera recording): https://vimeo.com/564776313

Tutorial 3/3 (External image analysis): https://vimeo.com/564778587

PupilEXT features a selection of six state-of-the-art open-source pupil detection algorithms, a measurement accuracy validation pipeline, stereo (mono) camera calibration, offline pupillometry, all combined in a single framework.

Babak Zandi,

on behalf of the whole team.
