Dear colleagues,

I am excited to announce the publication of two new Funding Opportunity Announcements (FOAs), entitled "Perception and Cognition Research to Inform Cancer Image Interpretation". There is an FOA for standard R01 research grants (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-17-125.html), and one for riskier R21 research grants (https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/pa-files/PAR-17-124.html). This is a great opportunity for researchers interested in topics related to medical image perception.

The purpose of the FOA is to facilitate research on the perceptual and cognitive processes underlying the performance of cancer image observers. Specifically, the FOA will bring scientists with expertise in visual perception and cognition together with radiologists, pathologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and other experts in cancer image interpretation. The scientific scope of the FOA will yield insights to improve the accuracy of cancer detection and diagnosis as a result of NCI's investment in studying the underlying perceptual and cognitive processes.

Please contact me (todd.horowitz at nih.gov) at NCI or Vinay Pai (paiv at mail.nih.gov) at NIBIB with any inquiries.
