The Icelandic Vision Lab advertises three 3-year positions for a post-doc and 2 PhD students. Both are fully funded by grant from the Icelandic Research Fund (IRF) and the research fund of  the University of Iceland. The successful candidates will work under the supervision of Professor Árni Kristjánsson and Dr. Andrey Chetverikov.

The positions involve research into representations of statistical variation in artificial displays and natural scenes. Recent evidence from our lab shows that observers can have a remarkably detailed representation of the distributions of stimuli in the environment. This work combines the disciplines of summary statistics, visual attention and sequential dependencies and priming in vision in addressing how we represent featural variation in the visual environment.  Research findings relevant to the project have recently been published in Cognition (http://dx.doi.org/10.1016/j.cognition.2016.04.018), Journal of Vision (http://dx.doi.org/10.1167/17.2.21), and two additional papers are under review. . 

The project will involve behavioral studies, computational modelling and neurophysiological studies (in collaboration with Dr. Gianluca Campana, University of Padova, Italy). Experience with experimental psychology software (PsychoPy/Psychtoolbox), programming (Python/MATLAB/C/C++), computational modelling in vision, and natural image statistics would be a plus, but is not required if there is enthusiasm and willingness to learn. 

The Icelandic Vision Lab offers a stimulating academic environment, and is headed by Árni Kristjánsson, Heiða María Sigurðardóttir and Árni Gunnar Ásgeirsson. The successful candidates will join this vibrant community of graduate students, post-docs and faculty who all work on various aspects of visual perception. The lab is well funded with grants from the Icelandic Research Fund, The European Research Council and the Research Fund of the University of Iceland, providing good access to necessary equipment for the studies.
