Post-doctoral Research Fellowship at FDA - Retinal microglia neurotoxicology
A postdoctoral research fellowship is available at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA), Center for Devices and Radiological Health (CDRH), Office of Science and Engineering Laboratories (OSEL), Division of Biomedical Physics (DBP). The fellow will participate in an FDA inter-center collaborative research project in the lab of Dr. Ethan Cohen to optically evaluate the sensitivity of microglia at detecting toxins in retinal tissue. The fellow should be familiar with handling live retinal tissue, optical imaging/image analysis, and immunocytochemistry. The qualified candidate should have a Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Engineering, Physiology, Pharmacology, or a Vision-related field. The laboratory is located at the FDA headquarters (Federal Research Center at White Oak) in Silver Spring, MD. Preference will be given to creative applicants with some or all of the following skills and experience:
* Confocal imaging and analysis.
* Original research publications and presentations
* Retinal pharmacology/physiology in rodents
* Optical system design.
* Ability to program and analyze image data in MATLAB, LabVIEW, or ImageJ

Note that this appointment is offered through the CDRH Postgraduate Research Participation Program and is administered by the Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE). The individual selected for appointments will not become employees of ORISE, ORAU, DOE, FDA, CDRH, or any other office or agency. Program participants will be paid a monthly stipend. Note this is not a GS position. This is an educational program and candidates should be within 5 years of completing a Ph.D. degree.
