Visual Health Scientist/Engineer
Job Summary:
The display visual experience team is looking for an enthusiastic vision scientist to support the development of cutting-edge imaging and display solutions and technologies for future Apple products.
This position is focused on understanding the aspects of visual health and comfort associated with specific display and imaging technologies. The goal is to enable the development, prototyping, and seamless execution of technologies to enable the best user experience of Apple products including iPhone, iPad, Watch, Mac and more. The team features a highly collaborative and hands-on environment that fosters scientific and engineering excellence, creativity, and innovation in the interdisciplinary areas of vision science, image processing, color science, neuroscience, and optics.

Key Responsibilities:
Lead research and provide expert guidance in on topics in visual health and comfort, such as:
visual fatigue, stress, discomfort
blue light hazard
light and circadian rhythms
photosensitive epilepsy
flicker and visual discomfort
stroboscopic lighting
lighting spectra and comfort
asthenopia
visual ergonomics
visually induced motion sickness
vergence-accommodation conflict
luminance and visual comfort.
Develop display metrics to quantify visual comfort.
Analyze archival science data to answer fundamental questions on visual health and comfort.
Design and conduct efficient, robust user studies on visual comfort.
Develop models of visual health and comfort based on user study results.
Define engineering specifications for future products based on visual health and comfort.
Key Qualifications
Track record of quality research on visual health and comfort.
Deep knowledge of human vision and visual health and comfort.
Experience in design, conduct, and analysis of human perception experiments.
Basic understanding of digital imaging and display software and hardware.
Strong analytical & critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of visual optics, optometry and clinical vision science.
Background in digital image processing or color processing.
Experience with Psychophysics Toolbox, PsychoPy or similar psychophysics tools.
Experience with eye-tracking technology.
Proficiency in Mathematica, MATLAB or similar simulation and modeling tools.
Education
Ph.D. in Optometry, Psychology, Vision, Imaging, Color, Computer, or Optics Science.
