[visionlist] [cvnet] Robert Musil and the Color Wheel

Jack,

Yes, I have a copy on my shelf. Stop by when you are on campus.

I am attaching a photo from the two pages with my highlights.

As pointed out earlier today by Nick Wade, Ptolemy had the "Maxwell's" top before Alhazen did, in 150 CE. Nick described Ptolemy's and Alhazen's contributions in his 1999 book titled "A natural history of vision."

Best,

Zyg

Hi Zyg,

This is very interesting--Alhazen is not generally thought of in connection with color. His Optics is not so easy to obtain, so I'm wondering if you have a copy. And if so, is his reference to a top-like color apparatus not very long? I'm wondering whether you could scan it and attach it to a cvnet email?

Of course this request is just one more confirmation that no good deed goes unpunished.

Cheers,

Jack
