*Postdoctoral position in cognitive neuroscience on perceptual awareness*
Applications are invited for a post-doctoral position to study visual and
auditory cognition with a focus on the neural correlates of perceptual
awareness. This NSF-funded project is focused on modifying newly developed
no-report EEG paradigms for fMRI, acquiring neuroimaging data, and
deploying state-of-the-art analysis techniques (e.g. decoding, RSA, etc.)
to answer basic outstanding questions about the neural correlates of
consciousness. This position is ideal for graduate students or post-docs
with a strong background in neuroimaging and interests in testing leading
theories of consciousness.
The postdoc will work closely with the project PIs: Prof. Michael Cohen
(Department of Psychology, Amherst College) and Prof. Michael Pitts
(Department of Psychology, Reed College). Both PIs run labs at small,
research-focused undergraduate institutions, so the post-doc can expect
significant individualized attention and training. Scanning will be carried
out at neighboring institutions (University of Massachusetts-Amherst or
Oregon Health and Science University).
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Psychology, Computer Science, Neuroscience,
or a related field. The ideal candidate will have experience with
neuroimaging, specifically fMRI, and will possess significant experience
with Matlab or an equivalent programming language.

The start date is flexible, with a preference between Sept 1, 2019 and Mar
1, 2020. The position is funded for two years, and the primary lab location
is flexible (Amherst MA, or Portland OR). Amherst and Reed Colleges are
Equal Opportunity Employers. Candidates from backgrounds underrepresented
in psychology/neuroscience are particularly encouraged to apply. Salary
follows the NIH Postdoc scale.
To apply, submit a CV, contact information for 2-3 references, and a cover
letter highlighting relevant research experiences and interests directly to
both mcohen at amherst.edu <michaelthecohen at gmail.com> and mpitts at reed.edu.
For more information, please contact either PI directly. Review of
applications is ongoing and will continue until the position is filled.
***Michael Cohen will be at the Annual Meeting of the Vision Sciences
Society (VSS) and will be happy to meet with any individual interested in
learning more about the position***
