*PhD position at the Department of Psychology, Otto-von-Guericke University
Magdeburg (Germany)*

We are looking for a highly motivated student for a 3-year PhD position at
the Dept of Psychology (Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg, Germany),
in collaboration with the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN) and the
DZNE Magdeburg. The position will be in the field of cognitive neuroscience
in the context of a Bial Grant, investigating the neural mechanisms of
Autosuggestion. The candidate will investigate how the inner repetition of
an idea influences sensations at the body on a phenomenological,
behavioural, and neurophysiological level. The key aims of the PhD project are
*(i)* to develop a behavioral paradigm that can induce alterations of
tactile (and/or pain) percepts through autosuggestion and *(ii)* to
investigate which neural micro-circuits underlie our ability to alter our
own bodily percepts using machine learning, 7 Tesla fMRI and EEG. The
candidate will be involved in 7T-fMRI experiments and well as
psychophysical and EEG (or MEG) experiments.

The *Science Campus Magdeburg* is a unique and word-leading research campus
in the heart of Magdeburg, Germany, that conducts multi-disciplinary,
cutting-edge research by uniquely combining knowledge of the
Otto-von-Guericke University Magdeburg and non-University Research Centers
such as the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases (DZNE, part of
Helmholtz Society) and the Leibniz Institute for Neurobiology (LIN),
creating a vibrant research environment with regular internal and invited
talk series and multiple platforms for student interaction. The Science
Campus Magdeburg offers state-of-the-art research facilities, including
several research-dedicated 3-Tesla and one 7-Tesla MRI scanner, one MEG,
and multiple EEG systems and eye-tracking devices.

Suitable candidates should have an M.Sc. degree in psychology, cognitive
psychology, biology, neuroscience, engineering, computer science or related
field. Experience in Matlab programming (or similar) and high proficiency
in spoken and written English are mandatory. Experience in either fMRI,
MEG, EEG analyses or psychophysics is desirable, but it is not a
requirement.

The position is for three years. A preferable starting date is August 2019,
subject to negotiation. This is a stipend-based PhD position (i.e., basic
salary, 15,000 - Euros/year), funded by the Bial Foundation.

Interested candidates should send a cover letter (max 2 pages) providing a
brief description of motivation, research work and achievements, their CV,
and contact details of at least two referees to *Prof Elena Azanon*
(elena.azanon at ovgu.de <eazanyon at gmail.com>), and *Dr Esther Kuehn* (esther.
kuehn at dzne.de) before July 15th 2019. Feel free to contact us for further
information.
