The International Research Training Group (IRTG) - 1901 - The Brain in Action, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), invites applications for

3 Research Assistants (Doctoral candidates)

Salary and benefits are according to a public service position in Germany (TV-H E 13, 65 %). The part-time positions are to be staffed starting at the 1st October 2019 or soon thereafter over a maximum period of up to 3 years and will offer the possibility of further scientific qualification in the frame of the assigned duties.

The IRTG is a joint doctoral research and training program of two German and three Canadian Universities: University of Giessen; University of Marburg; Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario; Western University, London, Ontario; and York University, Toronto. Announced positions are to be filled at the Universities of Giessen and Marburg. 

The IRTG is situated at the Universities of Giessen and Marburg. A significant part of each research project (obligatory: 6 to 12 months) will be performed at the partner sites in Canada. Doctoral candidates will attend a structured doctoral program including seminar and lecture series and practical courses and will be jointly supervised by German and Canadian researchers. In the context of the transferred tasks the possibility for independent scientific work is offered, which serves the own scientific qualification. The time limit is based on § 2 para. 1 sentence 1 WissZeitVG. 

The key goal of the IRTG is to deepen the understanding of the neural systems and processes that underlie perception and action in everyday living. Research will focus on action control in natural environments, multisensory perception for action, representation of action-space, or predictive mechanisms in action. We apply a variety of research methods, such as tracking of eye- and hand-movements, virtual reality, neurophysiology, Machine Learning, EEG or fMRI. 

A completed academic degree (diploma, master or equivalent) in the field of biomedical, life and natural sciences including psychology is required.
