Job opening in UC Berkeley Myopia Research group: Post doctoral fellowship to work on animal-based research into eye growth regulation and myopia, and specifically, the role of sex hormones, with optical, molecular, and physiological tools applied to understand underlying mechanisms.

The research of our group is wide ranging and multidisciplinary, encompassing basic and applied research and involving but not limited to studies using in vitro cell and tissue cultures, animal models (chicks and guinea pigs) and human subjects, with on-going collaborations both within and outside UC Berkeley.

One post doctoral fellow is sought to join an on-going project addressing the question of why human females appear more susceptible to myopia than males. The chick model of myopia is being used to investigate the role of local and circulating sex hormones in eye growth regulation. Applied tools include LC-MS/MS, real time PCR, western blotting and immunohistochemistry. The initial appointment will be for 12 months, with the potential to extend, funding permitting.

Requirements:
- Highly motivated and good team player.
- PhD degree with molecular biology or biochemistry emphasis, with relevant publication record.
- Experience with real-time PCR, western blotting and basis histology essential; experience with working with small animal models, LC-MS/MS and micro-dissection preferable.
- Experience with biometric ocular evaluations, such as ocular biometry, desirable.

Application instructions:
Please send your CV, accompanied by a cover letter, which includes the name and contact information of at least one reference writer, to wildsoet at berkeley.edu <mailto:martin.humenberger at naverlabs.com>.
