The Disney Lab in the Dept of Neurobiology at Duke University is looking for a postdoc interested in working on the extra-retinal control (i.e. neuromodulation) of visual processing. The specific goal of this project is to understand cholinergic and serotonergic gain control at thalamocortical synapses in the primary visual cortex of the macaque monkey. The work will involve multi-channel electrophysiology (laminar arrays) combined with pharmacology, neurochemistry (microdialysis with LC-MS/MS analysis) and psychophysics.
The successful candidate will gain experience in all of the above techniques and will be expected to collect and analyze data in a collaborative environment, prepare manuscripts for publication, and present data at conferences.
Applicants must hold a PhD in Neuroscience, Bioengineering, Psychology, or a closely-related discipline. The ability to work as part of a team is essential, as are strong quantitative and programming skills (e.g. R, Matlab, C++, Python). Prior experience working with non-human primates is preferred, but not required.
Interested applicants should send a CV with a cover letter, any relevant but unpublished manuscripts, and names and contact details for three referees to the Anita Disney: anita[dot]disney[at]duke[dot]edu.
