A postdoctoral research position is available in Dr. Vera-Diaz's Optics and
Vision Science Lab (https://www.neco.edu/research/faculty/diaz/lab) at the
New England College of Optometry (NECO) to address the significant question
of what signals trigger myopia development in children. In our lab we
investigate optical, retinal and visual processing structures, functions
and complexities of the human visual system. Knowledge of the mechanism(s)
for myopia development will be critical for the design of effective myopia
prevention and control treatments.

The project is part of a collaborative research effort of experts in
clinical optometry, neuroscience, vision science and electrophysiology. We
use a variety of research methodologies, including psychophysics,
peripheral aberrometry, gaze-contingent eye-tracking, biometry,
electrophysiology and computational analyses.

As a post-doctoral fellow, you will join an interdisciplinary team led by
Dr. Vera-Diaz. You will help the team design the experimental protocols and
will be expected to take the lead in developing and performing optical and
vision science experiments, collect and analyze data in a collaborative
environment and help disseminate the results.

You should hold a PhD in a relevant field (e.g., Optics, Vision Science,
Psychology, Neuroscience, Computer Science, Optometry). Strong quantitative
skills and Matlab programming ability are required. Optical modelling
skills (e.g., Zemax, ImagineOptix) and R programming skills are preferred
but not required.

NECO is an independent institution renowned as a leading myopia research
and clinical center. NECO is located in Boston, a vibrant and academic
city, and just steps from MIT, Harvard University and Northeastern
University among others. Its location allows for unique collaborative
research opportunities.

For further information and informal enquiries, please contact Fuensanta
Vera-Diaz at vera_diazf at neco.edu. To apply submit a statement of research
interests, your CV and names and contact information of three references to
hurierj at neco.edu.

The position is funded for up to 5 years. *NECO offers a competitive salary
and excellent benefits.** NECO is committed to creating a diverse
environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. All qualified
applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to
race, color, religion, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual
orientation, national origin, genetic information, disability, age, or
veteran status.*
