We seek a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow who will work in a lab at the Friedman Brain Institute of Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, New York City.

Hirofumi Morishita Lab (https://www.morishita-lab.com/) studies cortical mechanisms of perceptual and cognitive development relevant to neurodevelopmental and psychiatric disorders. We take an integrated in vivo approach, combining molecular, anatomical, electrophysiological, imaging and behavior methodologies using mouse models to address fundamental questions in neuroscience (Science 2010, PNAS 2013, Biol Psychiary 2015, Journal of Neuroscience 2015, 2016, Neuron 2016, Nature Genetics 2017, 2019).

The goal of this position is to identify novel molecular/circuit mechanisms of experience-dependent cortical plasticity using mouse visual system, a premier model of critical period. Potential project will combine slice patch-clamp recordings and in vivo electrophysiology with optogenetics, pharmacogenetics, and cell-type specific gain/loss of gene expression through genetic and viral techniques. We have an exciting preliminary data supporting the role of specific molecule/local circuits in regulating cortical plasticity relevant to Amblyopia, and Alzheimer's Disease. Our research program is currently funded by multiple NIH grants to support exciting research endeavors for a talented postdoc.

Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, located at Manhattan, New York City, offers an outstanding environment for a successful postdoctoral career in Neuroscience (ranked no.1 in Neuroscience for NIH funding).

Qualifications: PhD in neuroscience or relevant experience required. Past experience in slice electrophysiology is preferred. Experience with molecular biology, rodent in vivo analysis (e.g. stereotaxic surgery, behavior experiments, optogenetics), programing is a plus. Special consideration will be given to applicants with experience in slice electrophysiology.

Application and required documents:

1) Cover letter (including description of research experience, skills, & interests)

2) CV

3) Names and contact information (email & tel) of 3 references with a brief description of your relationship to each reference.

Please send the above information as a single pdf file to hirofumi.morishita at mssm.edu<mailto:hirofumi.morishita at mssm.edu>

The PI will attend full period of SFN annual meeting this year and will be available to meet in person with candidates.
