STAFF SCIENTIST - VISION, LEARNING AND MEMORY
NATIONAL INSTITUTE OF MENTAL HEALTH, NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH, BETHESDA, MARYLAND
Position Description:

The National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH), a major research component of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), is seeking exceptional candidates for a Staff Scientist position in the Intramural Research Program (IRP), Section on Learning and Plasticity (SLP) in the Laboratory of Brain and Cognition. SLP conducts research studies on high-level vision (e.g. face, object, scene recognition), learning and memory with the goal of elucidating the underlying neural mechanisms. SLP studies integrate a wide range of behavioral, and imaging technologies including magnetoencephalography (MEG), structural and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI, dMRI), eye tracking, and computational modeling (deep neural networks).

Qualifications:

Candidates must have a Ph.D. in neuroscience, psychology, computer science or a related discipline; post doc experience in fMRI/MEG and in the development of neuroimaging methods or analyses and familiarity with 3T and 7T systems. Proficiency with all major neuroimaging packages (AFNI, FSL, Freesurfer), and strong programming skills (e.g. python) are also required. Experience with machine-learning methods and related tools, high performance computing clusters, and data/code sharing platforms are desirable. The Staff Scientist’s primary responsibilities will include performing independent research related to the neuroimaging of high-level vision, memory and learning. In addition, the individual will support and train lab members, develop analysis pipelines, establish and conduct collaborative research, attend and present at national and international meetings, and assist in writing manuscripts. Salary will be commensurate with education and experience.
