[visionlist] Matlab --> online Experiments

Hi all,

Kind of a delayed response because we were still working on it, and not even about Matlab… but maybe still valuable for some of you. We have been working with a Processing inspired javascript library called p5.js, which is used by artists and designers and is quite accessible and interesting to use. I’ve used it in (design) education but also found it great to program online experiments. A nice aspect is that you can play around in the online editor (https://editor.p5js.org), copy that code into the MTurk requester portal and run the experiment, so we called Sketch-and-Test. We ran a change blindness, gauge figure and BubbleView experiment and it all seems to work pretty well, although I’m sure the p5.js library does not fulfil all the hardcore psychophysicists' wishes. Anyhow, here (https://arxiv.org/abs/2004.08198) is a preprint, we submitted the paper a few days ago to a journal and here<https://github.com/maartenwijntjes/p5-sketch-and-test> is a GitHub repository with additional info.

All the best!
Maarten

Hello everyone
I hope you are healthy and safe.
AND, given that we are all locked out of the lab,
I hope you happened to have figured out how to turn matlab code into something that runs remotely on an online platform.
If you know how to do that, I imagine that there are many people on this list who would be grateful for some pointers.

Finding participants with a bit of time on their hands won’t be hard, but it would nice not to have to
program everything from scratch.

Be well

Jeremy Wolfe
