Dear Friends,
    It’s with a heavy heart that I’m writing to tell you that Kevin MacKenzie died Wednesday August 25th. He was undergoing treatment for a rare cancer and we were optimistic that it would be successful, but it sadly it was not. Kevin had an admirable combination of creativity and scientific rigour, and as a graduate student was a valued member of our Centre for Vision Research community at York University.  He was my first PhD student - we learned a lot from each other during his time at York and subsequently became good friends.  He made the jump from his subsequent post-doc with Simon Watt to a research scientist position at Microsoft, and then at Facebook Reality Labs (Oculus). He continued to be a strong supporter of the CVR and vision sciences in general through his involvement with VSS and other conferences. Those of you who knew him will know he was generous with his friendship, his time and his laughter. We miss him already.
