[visionlist] PHD position on “Predictive Processing: the role of active inference account in explaining consciousness”

We are looking for a PhD candidate at The Department of Biological Psychology and Cognitive Neurosciences (BPCN) at the Friedrich-Schiller University Jena, Germany.

About the position

The position is available at the eye-tracking/EEG laboratory of the BPCN. Our ongoing work concerns the psychophysics, neural basis and theory of visual perception and consciousness with special interest on predictive processing. The advertised position is related to and financed by a Templeton Foundation grant, entitled  “Accelerating research on consciousness: An adversarial collaboration to test contrasting predictions of the Integrated Information Theory and Predictive Processing accounts of consciousness” (https://www.templetonworldcharity.org/projects-database/0646). The project is part of a large international network, including teams from the AU, USA, GB and NL. The work will involve eye-tracking, EEG/MEG recordings and behavioural measurements in close cooperation with the Melbourne located group of Jakob Howny and Jonathan Robinson at Monash University. What we expect from applicants:

·       MSc or equivalent in psychology, biology, cognitive neurosciences, or any related discipline.
·       Interest in pursuing a scientific career.
·       Experience in eye-tracking, EEG, MEG or fMRI and with Python (or Matlab) are preferred but not compulsory.
 
The position is available immediately. 
The position is fully funded for 36 months and salary is according to the German TV-L salary system on the level of 65 % “Wissenschaftliche Mitarbeiter”. A limited amount of teaching duties is expected from the successful candidate. The language in the laboratory is English.
