Briefly: The Department of Psychology seeks a postdoctoral fellow to
administer and maintain the ERP lab in support of collaborative research
with faculty and students. This includes training students (and faculty) in
the use of the facilities, as well as participating in the design,
development and analysis of faculty-sponsored research using ERP equipment
– sometimes in conjunction with eye-tracking or virtual reality. This
support may include technical consulting and programming as well as
presenting research at domestic and international conferences and helping
to prepare research for publication. The position is for 2 years, beginning
as early as July 1, 2023, with the possibility of extension.
Note: The position does not have teaching responsibilities, but past
holders of the position have often gained teaching experience at Swarthmore
College on a paid-by-course basis.
Swarthmore College is a highly selective liberal arts college located
in the suburbs of Philadelphia, whose mission combines academic rigor with
social responsibility. The 425‐acre campus is a designated arboretum,
complete with gardens, rolling lawns, a creek, wooded hills, and hiking
trails in the Crum Woods.
The Psychology Department at Swarthmore College is a vibrant and
diverse academic department with a strong emphasis on providing students
with hands-on experience in collaborative cutting-edge research. Students
have the opportunity to work closely with faculty members using
state-of-the-art facilities. We have recently transitioned to a new
building. The shared imaging facilities in our department include a set of
3 EEG/ERP rigs that support cognitive and social neuroscience projects.
We seek an individual with (1) Strong organizational skills, eager to
handle multiple tasks concurrently and able to prioritize workload. (2)
Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to train and
interact with students in the laboratory setting. (3) Effective coding
skills - ideally with MATLAB, R, SPSS, and/or Python.
You must be a recent PhD in Psychology or a related field with 2-3
years of experience in an academic laboratory setting who is qualified to
support and eager to participate in an active research program in cognitive
neuroscience or a related field.
You’ll work at one of the world's most renowned liberal arts Colleges,
with terrific benefits, a stunning 420-acre campus and collaborative work
environment. Come join a community of passionate, creative people for the
next step in your career.
